The directness and simplicity of drawing is integral to my practice, as is the basic experience of being human.
Certainty and assuredness are off-set with my vulnerability, failures and limits. Over the years, the quality of ambiguity has also played an important role. Is it this, or is it that, or is it both? I endeavour to introduce multiple experiences and interpretations, often invoking an ambivalent tension.
The play on conflict and contradiction appears and reappears as underlying themes, both in the imagery and use of materials, in my 2-D and 3-D work. Overlaps and repetitions of these dynamics from my internal and external worlds, present with past, gender, birth and death, continue to inform my process. I plan to add to this initial website with both older and new works and text that will expand on the development of my work.
All these recent works (2024) consist of graphite, charcoal, conte, watercolour pencil, &/or red ink on Fabriano acid-free paper. Typical dimensions are 150 x 95.
